dale hollow lake - byrdstown, tennessee

bass pro tour

April 9th - 14th, 2024

This was the second time I have competed at Dale Hollow Lake. In October I was there for the BFL regional event, but the fishery was much different than a spring time tournament now. The bite was somewhat tough for the population in Dale Hollow. We had a lot of weather move through during the event causing the fishing to slow. Ultimately it was dominated by forward facing sonar targeting suspended fish with jighead minnow style bait. I knew that was going to be the case for the event, but I still wanted to have some bank related patterns to fall back on. The first day of the event I was able to catch five fish shallow in the back of a creek arm using a spinnerbait and flipping a beaver. Later that afternoon I went and used my electronics and was able to get two additional fish that way. The largemouth seemed to be mainly pre-spawn while I believe a good part of the smallmouth had already spawned. The second day of the event the shallow creek fish didn’t bite as well for me and I was only able to catch a couple that way, then went and threw a 1/4 ounce jighead with a 3.3” kitec swimbait on points leading into small spawning coves. There were smallmouth using these windblown points outside the spawning pockets. I was able to catch five scorable fish the second day and this landed me in 35th place in my group for the event with a two day total of 32-13.
