Lake Eufaula Oklahoma was fairly normal when we arrived for practice. However after the first day of practice we received several inches of rain over the next few days. This caused the lake to rise almost three feet. Which provided excellent cover for the fish in the shallow bushes and grass however it took to the later part of the tournament for the water to stabilize and the fish to bite in those areas. The lake was in the low 70’s and water clarity varied due to all the rain we received. Certain parts of the lake basically were unfishable due to water clarity. However, there were multiple creek arms near the dam that provide cleaner and more fishable water. The majority of the fish were post spawn and had moved out of the spawning type areas. I spent my practice trying to keep myself in areas that I thought the fish would move after spawning. This consisted of boat docks leaving spawning coves and points leading out of them as well. I would target these areas with a spinnerbait, wacky worm, and crankbait. The first day of the event I caught two keeper bass for 5-04 which had me in 26th place for that round. One fish came on a buzzbait and the other on a crankbait. The bite was extremely difficult due to unstable water and the fact the spawn had finished recently. The second day of the event I was able to catch three scorable bass two on the crankbait and the other on a spinnerbait. These three weighed 5-07 with a two day total of 10-11. This dropped me to 29th place for the event. The afternoon of the second day I was able to get multiple bites fishing a crankbait on tapering rock points leading out of spawning type areas. This was proving to be a good pattern, but with limited time left in the day I was only able to get those two scorable bass and lose another one. Most of the anglers that did well in the event found areas in the shallows where fish had moved into and they targeted these fish with vibrating jigs and some soft plastics primarily.
